The Indonesian island of Sumba has found the right balance between light-touch tourism and deep-rooted tradition. On the western edge of the Savu Sea, a few islands east of Bali, there is a place where wild horses still roam on palm-fringed beaches and stretches of road see more buffalos than cars. Located in southern NTT, Sumba Island has a vast and beautiful savanna, amazing sea, and exotic beach. Besides, Sumba is also known for its traditional woven clothes, traditional houses, "pasola" horse racing, and megalithic remnants.

After breakfast, we will head to the village of Ratenggaro in the Kodi area. Here we will see the traditional high-roofed houses (actually the highest rooftops in all of Sumba), made all by hand and traditionally. This village is the only one of a few traditional villages left in the area, and while the village is just a compound of some houses, each house can accommodate up to 50 family members. During the harvesting season, however, most of the villagers will stay in their fields to work and only leave the elders and children in the village. Then we are going to Weekuri Lake, a crystal-clear lake that makes it a great place to swim and relax. Spend some time in the lake for a short (or long) dip. Do not miss walking around the rocks and reef, where you can also see the ocean from one side. Next to the Weekuri Lake we will find Mandorak Beach, guarded with 2 huge rock ridges pointing to the middle and crystal-clear water. Afternoon return to your hotel for overnight.
Day 3 : Sumba – Waikacura Ricefield – Praijing Village (B,L)
A new day, a new adventure. Today the journey will begin with a short trek through the rice fields of Sumba in Waikacura. Locals may be found doing farmer activities, and there is a beautiful view of the river and a small waterfall at the end of the trek. After this visit, we will be heading to another beautiful village; Praijing village. This village is built on top of a hill, and if you want to walk through the entire village, you actually have to walk down the hill. You will have an overview of the entire village at the entrance.
